Red is a modern dark fairy tale retelling an old story in an original way, set in an isolated English village and local boarding school. Sharp, observant and original, Red breaks conventional boundaries in an uncomfortable way that poses the question, “how far would you go for revenge…?”
In this short sample, Red has been abducted by the school bullies and abandoned in the woods during a rainstorm. Finding the cottage of the Hag Granny Hild, she is helped out of her wet clothes and submits to her fate all too readily, which shocks Granny Hild into asking “why?”
